First Shoot Incoming for LOUD + CLEAR

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just signed up my first band for LOUD + CLEAR, my new promo‑shot service designed to capture each act’s authentic sound and personality, not just their pose.

This local band were in need of a fresh set of promo shots and so together, we’re crafting something that better reflects them as they are now and the music they play.

This is the process I use for LOUD+CLEAR:

Step 1: Meet & Talk—No Camera, Just Conversation

Before I even pick up my camera, I meet the band in a relaxed setting. We talk through their back‑story, influences, image and what they genuinely love about their music. I throw in my favourite question: “What’s currently on your turntable?” - metaphorically speaking it tells me what they are currently listening too and it’s amazing how that little detail unlocks so much about their style and mood.

We also chat audience demographics and venues they play, whether it’s sweaty basement gigs or airy festival stages, so I can tailor the visuals to their actual world.

Step 2: Ideas & Moodboard

With that insight in hand, I develop photoshoot ideas informed entirely by the band. What’s their look? Their messaging? The colour palette, mood, props? I put it all together into a moodboard that brings it to life visually.

They review it and we fine‑tune: tweak colours, swap a location, try a few outfit options. Only once everything feels right do we move to step three.

Step 3: Plan & Permission

Next, I lock down the chute date, location and all permissions. No guesswork, no scrambling on the day. Every detail is in place, so the band can focus fully on being engaged with the photoshoot and not worrying about logistics.

Step 4: The Shoot

On the shoot day, this isn’t about “band + brick wall + camera.” Instead, we capture them in motion, in character, in the light and environment that matches their story. It’s authentic, expressive and completely tailored to them, as musicians.

Visual storytelling is my business, and this is what set me apart from some other photographers. It’s a skill I’ve honed over the years and across many genres of photography.
