Intentional Camera Movement

The Photography Show at the NEC in Birmingham is a highlight in the year for me for a number of reasons. One of which is hearing and getting inspiration from other photographers. This year I was able to hear from Ted Leeming and Morag Paterson about their Zero Foot Prints project (zero footprints.org), which was fascinating in itself and one I'd like to explore further, but what also impressed me was their style of landscape photography.

Using ICM (intentional Camera Movement) they create an impressionist / painterly effect by deliberately moving the camera whilst the shutter is open.

I had played with this technique before, but seeing Ted and Morag's images made me want to return to this style of photography, and so this weekend I did.

There was a lot of trial and error but eventually I manage to get some satisfying results. This bay window is one of my favourites.
